A system for customization and generation of codes of records. The code system is a single business object, which allows the user to indicate if the code of an object should be generated automatically, and if so, how it is to be compiled. The records’ codes are mandatory for each object of the system – as they identify each record uniquely. This system provides the user with a control over the code of a certain object, which can be either automatically generated or manually compiled. When the code is generated automatically the following segments can be customized:

• Numeric series – this is an essential composite part of the code which is made up of series of sequential numbers and for which the following elements are identified:
  • Length
  • Beginning
  • End
  • Step
• Object properties – a given property (such as the code of the group a product belongs to or both) may partially compose the code of a record
• Free text – free text can be designated to become part of the code of a record

Elements automatically monitors for code duplicates and creates the codes of new records.
